There are a number of great road trip destinations to consider this winter in Georgia. Whether you want to explore the great outdoors or hit the big city, there’s truly something for everyone in the Peach State. Hop in your Chevy and check out these awesome winter getaways in Georgia.
One of the top places to visit late in the year is Tallulah Gorge and Falls. This two-mile, 1,000-foot-deep gorge is often referred to as the Niagara Falls of the south. There are hiking, biking, and kayaking opportunities, as well as particularly scenic views once the leaves change colors. There are even a suspension bridge and a campground for overnight stays.
Savannah is always a great place to visit, and it’s often less crowded in the winter. You can visit the historic downtown area for a pleasant afternoon walk, or you can take a horse-drawn carriage ride for a romantic evening. For the particularly adventurous, take a canoe on the Wilderness Southeast tour.
Cumberland Island is a stunning location, and it’s often less touristy in the winter. There are campgrounds and biking areas, but the main reason to visit is to watch the roaming wild horses and turtles that frequent the island.
Helen is beautiful year-round, but the winter highlights its unique charms. This re-creation of a traditional Bavarian village has painted wooden houses, cobblestone streets, and a range of things to do in the cold months. You’ll find over 200 shops, local wines, and special holiday events.
